A Great Day

That’s what today is: A Great Day! I got a 1 star review from an individual who’s chief complaint was that my book was a lot “grittier and bloodier” than they anticipated! I don’t know if I could ever feel happier about a 1 star review, let alone happy at all, but this did the trick :). I really appreciated that.

I also received some great news for one problem I have had, so today is a day worth celebrating. Years of struggling, testing, surgeries, and I’m clean and clear of this problem at this point. It’s wonderful, and I give thanks to God and to my doctor! While I have some other major issues, I am getting those addressed this week, and praying for quick resolution. Been in quite a lot of pain from this problem, so glad the week is finally here to see my specialist!

What’s making your day great? What Would make your day great?

New Adult Book Club & Progress

Plans have shifted, as they always do, but that’s no complaint! Snow has been bumped up to the RI&RI as of Today through New Adult Book Club :)! Is now posted Here! As always there is that nervous excitement, because you never know how people will react. In the meantime, I started tracking my progress of reading Blizzard. I need to be kept on track! With so much going on outside of needing to read Blizzard, write Hail, and prep it for publishing I’m surprised I’m still in one piece :S! At this pace I’m afraid I will not make my deadline, so this means DOUBLE-TIME! Hahaha Ahhh…yeah.

You know what I love in all this, reading my work after publishing? I capture all the things I have already so swiftly forgotten! It was the same with Snow, but the best part is getting caught up in the story and the characters -^_^-. Truth be told, I’m not sure just how large Hail will be…but I have the feeling it will be significantly larger than the first, and somewhat more robust than the second. I wonder if it’s not too much, but what good would holding back do at this point? Onward it is!

hahahainspiring

Reading and Hopefully…some writing…soon!

How do writers do it? I mean…I’m published, though Self-Published. It’s not an easy feat to accomplish either way. I did not take easy roads, I made sure to hire an editor, proofreader, formatter, and cover designer-all of these ladies which I Love. But…do other authors look to each and every review and rating? I know I do, it’s like a disease, a poison infiltrating my system. I must stop.
I will continue reading my book tomorrow (I’m so exhausted!) by finishing it in whole, and would like…no…I NEED to get writing on this before July is over :S!

Encouragement & Frustration

Exhaustion, fatigue, disappointments, frustrations, and encouragement. All characteristics of life that spiral into the violent cyclone of life that both destroys and cleans the slate. The amount of health problems I have is ridiculous. Most is minor or simply inconvenient, some is threatening to break my bow. I wonder how other’s consistently manage to break through the worst of it, when all that is visible at times is the lightning strikes between the swelling waves. Yet, I’ve always managed to be an optimist and come out the other side, though on occasion a bit banged up. I make it through. Finding encouragement from within is difficult, even with people at the sidelines cheering you on. Dealing with situations, such as the recent Amazon problem I referenced, never seems to diminish the pile of laundry that grows. Every item taken down, folded, and tucked away neatly always means some other article will replace its wrinkled real estate in the basket.

The mental battles are the hardest, but the physical always brings the mental aspect on board. I’m so tired, all the time, unable to ever get enough sleep. Perhaps the problem is I was meant to be born a Koala? That would make sense. Can be cute and cuddly, or terrifying and vicious =^_^=. For unspeakable reasons this pleases me…

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I can’t seem to get myself in shape to do what it is required to write this last book. I’m reading my own book, and enjoying it when I have the time, but man…life. Kids, work, family, health, life. I can’t call them wrenches, each is a vital component to my structure, but I can point out some don’t always grease the wheels. Some are difficult pieces refusing to work well with the other functioning parts. This has been a regurgitation of my exhaustion and frustration. Lot’s “tions” there, but accurately described.

Amazon, KDP Select, and Reviews: A corrupt system?

The last twenty-four hours have proven to make me so hot under the collar I feel I’m going to explode. First, I receive a message from ANOTHER reviewer telling me their review was denied for reasons that are Truly false-this one was for Blizzard, then I found two reviews & ratings had been removed for Snow!
Now, I just recently removed Snow from KDP Select to once more try out have the availability of multiple vendors. I had, after removing Snow from KDP Select, made the request to have them price match the FREE listing that is available everywhere else. This raises concerns for me, as it appears as some backlash for not sticking strictly with Amazon. The review in question that had been denied for Blizzard wasn’t even one that would not be considered wholly positive, though certainly honest, and not biased in any manner as such. Amazon has made the claim this review was biased. If that had been the case I would expect the review to have been of such praise as to put the most well-known authors to shame! I call BS on Amazon/Kindle

Now, a little over a month ago another author had warned me Amazon had been going through stripping away reviews from book reviewers who identified they were given a free copy of the book for an honest review and rating from the author. This was sticking to Amazon’s Strict guidelines, mind you. Below are the guidelines from Amazon as of TODAY-which were Very Recently changed:

Community Guidelines

Guidelines for Amazon.com Community participation.

Amazon.com wants your voice to be heard! The Amazon Community provides various features for engaging other users and sharing authentic feedback about products and services – positive or negative. These Community Guidelines help you use Community features, including Customer Reviews, Customer Questions & Answers, Amazon Follow, Profile pages, Outfit Compare, Style Check, Spark, Digital and Device Forums, Registries and Lists.

Note: These Guidelines do not apply to content included within products or services sold on Amazon, which are subject to separate policies.

We take the integrity of the Community seriously. Any attempt to manipulate Community content or features, including by contributing false, misleading, or inauthentic content, is strictly prohibited. If you violate our Guidelines, we may restrict your ability to use Community features, remove content, delist related products, or suspend or terminate your account. If we determine that an Amazon account has been used to engage in any form of misconduct, remittances and payments may be withheld or permanently forfeited. Misconduct may also violate state and federal laws, including the Federal Trade Commission Act, and can lead to legal action and civil and criminal penalties.

We encourage anyone who suspects that content manipulation is taking place or that our Guidelines are being violated in any way to notify us. We investigate concerns thoroughly and take any appropriate actions.

By accessing or using our Community features, you agree to our Conditions of Use and to abide by these Guidelines as modified from time to time. These Guidelines apply to any content (including text, images, video, and links) you submit to Amazon and actions you take (such as voting on helpfulness or smiling at a post) when using Community features. These Guidelines also apply to your interactions with other members of the Community.

Note: Additional guidelines apply to Customer Reviews

Promotions and Commercial Solicitations

In order to preserve the integrity of Community content, content and activities consisting of advertising, promotion, or solicitation (whether direct or indirect) is not allowed, including:

  • Creating, modifying, or posting content regarding your (or your relative’s, close friend’s, business associate’s, or employer’s) products or services.
  • Creating, modifying, or posting content regarding your competitors’ products or services.
  • Creating, modifying, or posting content in exchange for compensation of any kind (including free or discounted products, refunds, or reimbursements) or on behalf of anyone else.
  • Offering compensation or requesting compensation (including free or discounted products) in exchange for creating, modifying, or posting content.
  • Posting advertisements or solicitations, including URLs with referrer tags or affiliate codes.

The only exceptions are:

  • You may post content requested by Amazon (such as Customer Reviews of products you purchased on Amazon or received through the Vine program, and answers requested through Questions and Answers). In those cases, your content must comply with any additional guidelines specified by Amazon.
  • You may post an answer to a question asked through the Questions and Answers feature (but not a question itself) regarding products or services for which you have a financial or close personal connection to the brand, seller, author, or artist, but only if you clearly and conspicuously disclose the connection (for example, “I represent the brand for this product.”). We automatically label some answers from sellers or manufacturers, in which case additional disclosure is not necessary.
  • You may post content other than Customer Reviews and Questions and Answers regarding products or services for which you have a financial or close personal connection to the brand, seller, author, or artist, but only if you clearly and conspicuously disclose the connection (e.g., “I was paid for this post.”). However, no brand or business may participate in the Community in a way (including by advertising, special offers, or any other “call to action”) that diverts Amazon customers to another non-Amazon website, service, application, or channel for the purpose of conducting marketing or sales transactions. Content posted through brand, seller, author, or artist accounts regarding their own products or services does not require additional labeling.

Book authors and publishers may continue to provide free or discounted copies of their books to readers, as long as the author or publisher does not require a review in exchange or attempt to influence the review.

-This here. I have been requested a free copy from readers, with their own intention to provide their reviews on many occasions. The one’s I’ve recognized as being removed were from one who had WON the book in Goodreads Giveaway – which Goodreads works with Amazon, and makes the reminder that it is Kind and Considerate to leave a review at both Amazon and Goodreads – and a reviewer who had reached out to me asking for a copy, and that they would provide their review honestly (either way it fell).

-This also infuriates me that they would identify, at all, that an author cannot request a Read and Review from Book Reviewers. New authors, ESPECIALLY Indie Authors, have to struggle to get their books out in front of the general public, and this Always means putting out the request to Book Reviewers(Bloggers) who are given free copies for their HONEST Reviews, whether that is a Positive or what’s considered Negative. I’m sorry, but Amazon’s Kindle is NOT geared to help in selling or promoting an author’s work unless they get so many ratings and reviews. Their marketing and advertising tools have done NOTHING, and I honestly believe they have individuals that they are paying/utilizing to click simply to drive up the cost that author’s and businesses have to pay.

For more information and examples, read About Promotional Content.

So here I want to point out one last thing: this JUST recently changed regarding Authors and Reviewers. I have had Snow published for almost a year now. It previously identified that if a Reviewer had been contacted by an Author for their review, they would have to identify that in their review when posting – and it would be ACCEPTABLE. Amazon/Kindle is doing something I find completely unethical by removing any and all reviews that were provided previously, that met their guidelines, prior to their modification.

At the very least I would expect them to leave those that were posted prior to the modification that met the requirements at that time. Amazon/Kindle is wrong in these actions, and they are only making it more difficult and regressing on a matter that had once helped to champion forth. I see Bias on Amazon/Kindle. What I want to do is contact a news outlet and identify this change, identify this injustice that so many others are starting to face. It’s hypocrisy, corruption, and bias in the worst forms from a company that is beginning to have too much influence and control. Disappointment reigns supreme on this matter, I honestly expect better from Amazon/Kindle.

New Adult Book Club – RI&RI, Q&A, Giveaway…

Ahhh! So much planned coming up! I suddenly feel the pressure of all that needs to be done between Hail to the marketing/advertising for Snow AND Blizzard @_@!

Okay: Snow & Blizzard first! Snow & Blizzard will be set up for RI&RI (Read It & Review It) through New Adult Book Club on Goodreads – I have the dates verified with the Mods, but I don’t want to post them specifically until they themselves have shared these dates with the group! I can identify that Snow will be in September, and Blizzard will be in October, but that’s all I’m willing to relinquish for the time being.

Additionally, there will be a Q&A which I will participate in during September (again-waiting until those details are later released), which will be accompanied by a Signed Book Giveaway for Blizzard with an Amazon Voucher! The Q&A will occur over 1 week which I will be hopping in to answer any and all questions presented by members! If you are looking for more books to read, check out NABC! Lot of involvement from other authors, a great team running – with about 3 spots for Mods to fill if you’re interested :D.

My feelings:kermiGIF

I’ve been making my way through reading Blizzard, highlighting passages and bits of information I would/may otherwise forget or miss that is vital in the next book. In addition to needing to write the book, I will need to add another, larger map that covers more of the world. There is a map maker I’ve begun following on Instagram who I’ll be reaching out to create better maps than those I made personally-I apologize, they are not exactly good :S. In any case! I plan to remedy that. I’ve decided to wait until I complete Hail before going back to Snow and beefing up/expanding portions that would better define the story. Once that is complete, I have plans. Yes, Many Plans! Mwahahahahaha!

Anyway…don’t forget, there is a Goodreads Giveaway going on for Blizzard to win 1 of 100 eBook copies! 😉

How to Begin, Again…

This is one of those days for me where the reality of my desires has made itself known. A subconscious beat that has steadily ticked louder with each strike of the drum until it has drowned out every other thought I have, every requirement that leads to the next phase, this which I speak of has devoured me entirely. It seems a somewhat silly thing, a situation I should not be finding myself in, had I trusted my own instinct in the first place. I want to go back and work on Snow. Revise the areas that I left unchanged even though I felt frustration in not doing what I felt was the right thing. Imagine having invisible ants moving beneath your skin, that’s the feeling that has spread throughout my body from its core. Chastising myself for allowing years of mixed feedback to skew what I knew I wanted, and rushing headlong so I wouldn’t chicken out on the whole deal, has left me dissatisfied with my own work.

This should never be a problem. The good news? I have an opportunity to correct those errors. There is no need to spend endless amounts of time in self loathing, but there is a dilemma. Do I make these modifications now, prior to writing out Hail? I would prefer that, as I have plans to release the trilogy as one Set to be purchased. That, however, means pushing Hail out to release early next year, instead of early December. My own fault, irritating, but these changes I have been contemplating since before publishing would help tie into, and drive, the remainder of Neva’s story in Hail.

The beauty of self publishing is the ability to modify as I’m planning. Another option, as I’ve been reaching out, is to revise and submit the revised manuscript to be taken up by an Agent, and be cycled through to a Publishing House. That is an enticing thought. Yet, it honestly has to be nearly perfect to get past the “self published” stigma. So many authors have identified many agents (and publishing companies) treating them as though they had an incurable strain of leprosy. That’s daunting beyond belief when considering how difficult it is to get a manuscript even shuffled near a desk, let alone placed on one.

These are my thoughts, my considerations, and my uncertainty. There are people who absolutely love Snow the way it is, but I believe it can go beyond. I am certain I can get it to where it belongs.
